JANUARY DAY MEETING
Marguerite Campbell will give us an update on the Nanyuki Weavers & Spinners in Kenya. We will meet on Thurs., Jan.
11 from 10 - 12:30 at Buzzard's Backyard BBQ. Google Nanyuki for information on their origin and products.
JANUARY NIGHT MEETING
The January Night Meeting will be held at a different venue and on a different night. We've reserved The Monterey Public
Library, Pacific St., Monterey from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Tues., Jan. 23. People liked the venue for Michael Hattori's presentation,
so we decided to try it out again. We'll resume our regular 4th Thurs.of the month time, with location in members' homes,
in February.
The program will be a flat weave project. This involves turning a 3-dimensional object into its flat version, weaving
it, and then putting the object back together in its 3-dimensional shape. For details, see the explanation below. The guild
will provide materials. Please RSVP to Merrie (646-0246) or groveweavr@aol.com so she knows how much to bring.
DECEMBER MEETING RECAP
About 20 of us gathered at Buzzard's Backyard BBQ to celebrate another year of creativity and togetherness. Members present
selected the following officers for 2007:
President - Merrie Hewitt
Veep/Guild Liaison - Laurie Simmons
Sec'y - Pat Rosburg
Treas. - Ann Pettit
Librarian -Patricia McDowell
Newsletter Editor - Jan Thoele
Website Editor - Susan Bradshaw
Following a fabulous main course of chicken and tri tip prepared by Robert and salads, soups and desserts provided by
members, we exchanged gifts. The bags/purses ranged from a "money bag" made by Berta Jones (including money woven
into the bag) to a wine bag (a felting mistake led to this new creation by Simone Mortan) and many more beautiful handwoven,
knitted, felted, and crocheted purses.

NEWS FROM MEMBERS
Marie Stanley says hello. She's been weaving on her 8-shaft loom. One project was a coat with fabric she had woven.
Kate McGrave has volunteered to work with Alliance on Aging and will be busy completing their training. Thanks for the
many hours you put in organizing the library list, Kate. Hopefully, you can still join us at our meetings.
Welcome to new member, Gwen McEwan.
FLAT WEAVE PROJECT
The program for the January Night Meeting is a flat weave project. We will use a pin weaving technique used by bead weavers.
To start, choose a place or object that has a special meaning to you. For example, for a project in Sylvia Rios' weaving
class at Hartnell, Judy Burdick chose the cottage she lived in while studying in Oxford, England. She flattened the shape
on graph paper, pinned the graph paper to a stiff backing, warped up the design and then wove it. She sewed the object into
its 3-dimensional shape and embellished it.
Your chosen object can be as simple as a cube or as complex as a Mayan temple. The Guild will provide the necessary materials
(graph paper, pins, a stiff backing and strong, thin yarn for the warp.). Bring your idea and weft yarn to complete your weaving.
Please RSVP Merrie, so she can bring enough supplies.
