March 2008

March Meeting

Simone will show us how to needle felt. She will
bring some dyed wool and will provide some
tools. She has a limited selection of colors, and
probably won't have enough for everyone to
work at once. Here are supplies needed:

1. Felting needle(s)

(These are available in a holder, or you can buy
replacement needles for less money and use them
individually.)

2. Dyed wool (Preferably carded wools, if not
carded Simone will bring her hand carders.)

3. Foam pad or large sponge to work on, or a
brush like felting pad

Felting needles and small brush like felting pads
can be purchased at your favorite yarn or craft store.
Some vendors sell 4" thick foam rubber by the foot.
A 12" square piece is ideal. For small projects, I think
a THICK foam kitchen sponge will work. The main
thing is you need something at least 2-3" thick so your
felting needle doesn't go all the way through and get
broken by hitting the table. Be sure if you buy a sponge
that it's foam, and not the stiffer cellulose type, which
would be too stiff to work well.

Carmel Crafts Guild Library

Our library catalogue will soon be online. Stay
tuned. Looking for a reference will soon become
easier. Browse the Guild's online list of books,
and send a request to our librarian to bring it to
the next meeting.

At-risk Teens

Nancy Trissel shared information about an organization in southern California that teaches knitting to at-risk teenagers. We are still accepting donations for these kids. Please bring yarn, needles and patterns to the meeting and Merrie will ship them to the organization.
Thanks and see you the 14th.
