A CITY GIRL HAS FUN
Want to watch a sheep get sheared? Want to watch groups of 3rd graders watching a sheep get sheared? If so, sign up for
The Farm Day Experience. It's a time when "the ag community reaches out to those who don't understand how their plates
are filled". The first Ag Day was held Thurs. Oct. 26 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. Ann Pettit, Linda Millerick
and Jan Thoele volunteered to weave. (Actually, Linda was there all day registering volunteers and then weaving.). After the
sheep shearing, Gerry Wade gave a talk on what happens with the wool: washing, carding, dyeing, spinning (with Anne's Web
Spinners and CCG's Lila Blalock and Ruth Andresen) and weaving. This was followed by a free luncheon for all volunteers. There
are two more chances to participate. It's great fun!

WEBSITE NEWS
Susan Bradshaw reports the newsletter will now be on the website (www.carmelcraftsguild.org). There are other additions

ASILOMAR 2007
The CNCH 2007 Fiber Retreat information is now available at www.cnch.org. Reserve Apr. 19-22, 2007. Return to Asilomar
Conference Center. Registration opens Nov. 1. Paper registration books will be available at our Nov. meetings. If you ask
early enough, you may be a &"class angel"; for one of the workshop teachers, insuring a place in that workshop.
VENDOR SURVEY
Cheryl Reynolds, CNCH Advisory Council President, wants feedback on vendors for the 2008 Conference. Below are some questions
to discuss at our next meetings - or contact Laurie with your comments, so we can pass them on to Cheryl. This is a good opportunity
to make sure your favorite vendors are at the conferences so you can buy, buy, buy.
Can you recommend a merchant that hasn't participated at CNCH, or suggest one that hasn't attended in years that you would
like to see again?
Are there materials you would like to purchase, but haven't found at conferences lately?
What are the items that you usually purchase at conferences?
What items do you usually order via catalog?
What items do you covet but find difficult to replace in your cache of weaving or spinning supplies?
If you're a weaver, what do you enjoy weaving the most - tapestry, rugs, clothing, household goods, baskets, beads....?
If you are a spinner, what materials do you enjoy spinning the most? Do you prefer raw fleece or prepared?
Do you enjoy dying fiber or cloth? Is it something you do frequently?
How often do you attend conferences? Which ones do you attend?
What do you enjoy most at conferences? Least?
What are the major reasons you choose not to register for a conference?
Any other suggestions or comments?

COLOR TIPS
To complement our Color and Weave Effect slide show, here are some thoughts on color:
In dyeing, a strong color can be grayed by adding a weak dye solution of its complement
A black warp brings out the colors in the weft; a white warp washes out the colors in the weft
Colors, other than complementary, placed side by side will tend to shift away from each other toward their complements.
This is useful in a mixed warp: several closely related shades of blue, used together, will "push apart" - a blue
used with a blue violet will look more violet.
