HOMECRAFTERS MARKETPLACE
From Ann Pettit
Homecrafters Marketplace is Sat., Nov. 17. Ann Pettit delivered samples of items that will be at the Guild booth and all were accepted.

We have fabric woven during the Monterey County Fair that needs to be turned into saleable items (pillows, runners, purses, etc.). If you're interested in helping out with this or with setting up, selling, and/or taking down on the day of the Marketplace, please contact Ann (twopettits@yahoo.com or 375-9694).

HOLIDAY POTLUCK/EXCHANGE
After Nancy's preview of her October program, Cleda suggested that the Christmas gift exchange for this year be a gift box. It can be knitted, felted, woven, made of origami paper (see October Program information), whatever material and shape and size you want. Should be fun to make and fun to share

THE FUTURE
Below is a list of programs for the rest of 2007.
Month - Program

November - Ann Pettit - Dragon Boats

December - Holiday Potluck//Exchange "The Ruts"

CNCH 2008 Area/Guild Booth - Ask Merrie and Laurie about this.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE
We need a nominating committee to find officers for 2008. Traditionally, we vote for officers at our December Holiday Potluck/Exchange, so the committee needs to be ready with nominations by then.

The following have indicated an interest in serving: Ann Pettit is willing to continue as Treasurer and Merrie Hewitt is interested in serving as Vice President/CNCH Liaison.

The following positions are definitely open: President, Secretary, and Newsletter Editor.

If you are interested in being on the Nominating Committee and/or being an officer, please let Jan (375-8049) or Ann 9375-9694) now asap.

RECAP OF SEPTEMBER MEETING
Merrie brought up several issues of concern centering around workshops, speakers, and programs that will increase attendance and involvement in guild meetings and activities. We discussed raising the membership fee by $5 to provide more money to pay for major speakers or for programs led by outside presenters. We also discussed the idea of individual members taking turns being responsible for monthly programs. Other ideas were discussed but the bottom line seems to be that we need a shot in the arm. Please let us know any ideas, suggestions, advice you have on how to generate more involvement.

PUMPKIN POBLANO SOUP
From Simone Mortan

(Modified from Potato Poblano Soup in Mesa Mexicana by Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger)

2 strips of bacon, cut into 1/2 inch wide pieces
1 medium onion
4 poblano chiles, roasted, seeded, peeled and diced
(I substitute 1 small can of Ortega diced chiles)
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp freshly gorund black pepper
3 gloves garlic, minced
1 quart chicken stock (I used one 49 oz. can)
1 small pumpkin seeded and peeled and diced (about 8 cups of diced pumpkin meat)
1 cup Crema, Creme fraiche or sour cream
1/2 cup grated anejo cheese

Fry bacon until it browns. Toss in the onions and diced chiles, salt and pepper, and cook until slightly golden, 5-7 minutes. Drain off any excess fat. Stir in garlic and cook briefly until it releases aroma, 1-2 minutes.

Pour in chicken stock, add pumpkin, and bring to a boil. Cook until pumpkin is tender, about 20-30 minutes. Puree in a food processor just until smooth. Return to pot and stir in the crema, creme fraiche, or sour cream and bring just to a boil. Sprinkle with grated anejo cheese if desired and serve hot.

SAMPLE
From Cleda Houmes
This is the draft with which I was asked to dress my loom for the Jannie Taylor shadow weave workshop at Asilomar last spring. The yarn is 22/2 unmercerized cotton mill ends sett at 30 epi.

It was a really enjoyable workshop. Jannie is knowledgeable, organized, patient, and approachable. The samples she brought were varied and inspiring. A weave structure which I had never really considered was shown to have many possibilities. As usual I have many more ideas than time to weave but that's half the challenge.
